Gil comes from a family of musicians; with his father Michael being a world famous harmonica virtuoso. Gil began performing professionally at the age of 6 with his father. They were later joined by sister Marilynn, along with brothers Craig & Michael Jr., thus forming the only professional harmonica playing family in the annals of show business. Over the years Gil had the opportunity to perform on the same bill & TV with such show business notables as Buddy Hackett, Connie Francis, Joan Rivers, Liberace, (who became a dear friend) John Davidson, Jan Murray, The Four Aces, Red Buttons, Frank Fontaine, Jackie Gleason, The Four Lads, Jerry Stiller & Anne Meara, Sammy Davis Jr., Academy Award Winner Joe Pesci & many more.
After many appearances at the "World Famous Palace Theater", The Chimes family played on the last "8 Act Vaudeville Show" there. Gil has since appeared on Broadway in the musical "Shenandoah" with John Cullum, late of "Northern Exposure" on TV & John Raitt, father of Bonnie Raitt. Gil has also played harmonica on many radio & TV commercials. His harmonica can be heard on many recordings including the mega hit "Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Old Oak Tree" with Tony Orlando & Dawn. On TV Gil was featured on the Robert F. Kennedy Jr. special and more recently the Sony special "Moviola" with academy award winning composer John Barry.
Gil was also featured for over 8 years on WNEW radio on the "Milkman's Matinee" with world famous jazz authority Al "Jazzbeaux" Collins. Playing drums with his Jazz group, Gil was joined by some of the biggest names in Jazz, such as Joe Bushkin, Lionel Hampton, Warren Vache, Bucky Pizzarelli & many other Jazz giants. Gil also has the distinction of being the last live musical broadcast on WNEW. Gil has also done his own cable TV show "Time for Chimes", which was shown in 25 cities throughout Westchester County, on which he interviewed various guests each week.It was one of the most widely seen shows on cable. Most recently Gil did a talk show on WFAS Radio in Westchester County, New York. During this time he interviewed live in studio such celebrities as John Pizzarelli, Julius LaRosa, Jazz singing great Jackie Paris, Joni James, Jimmy Roselli, Bobby Short, Lainie Kazan, Alan King to name a few. Gils latest endeavor had him interviewing Academy Award winner Denzel Washington and world famous actor Ozzie Davis. Gil's style of interviewing this caliber of entertainers has met with such critical acclaim that the time has come to bring this show to a much greater audience.
